Where Does American Shaman Get Their Hemp?
American Shaman gets their hemp from farms in Montana, Kansas, and Kentucky, all of which are licensed by their respective (state) departments of agriculture.
All of the hemp is non-GMO and grown organically, that is, without pesticides and herbicides.
What Extraction Method Does American Shaman Use?
American Shaman uses ethanol to extract hemp oil from the full plant (all parts exposed to air: flower, leaves, stalk, etc.) at their Montana and Missouri extraction facilities.
Ethanol is a widely used and safe solvent for extraction, typically better at preserving cannabinoids and terpenes than CO2 extraction.
After extraction, the oil is distilled using wiped film distillation, which removes plant material such as chlorophyll, fat, and wax from the hemp extract.
Does American Shaman Third-Party Test Their Products?
Yes, American Shaman tests every batch of their products with Green Scientific, an ISO-17025-accredited third-party lab, as well as their in-house lab testing facility under Shaman Botanicals (parent company).
American Shaman has Green Scientific conduct a full panel of tests, including testing for cannabinoid potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, microbes, and terpenes, as required by the US Hemp Authority.

Concentration
Our team tried the VG Cloud Tinctures, Water Soluble Tinctures, and CBNight Water-Soluble Tincture.
Each of the tinctures contains 300mg of CBD, except for CBNight, which has approximately 120mg of CBN.
Third-party results for our tinctures revealed the following:
- VG Cloud Tinctures: 10.9mg of CBD per serving, which is 327mg of CBD total; other cannabinoids were detected as well.
- Water Soluble Tinctures: 11.9mg of CBD per serving, which is 357mg of CBD total; other cannabinoids were detected.
- CBNight: 4.4mg of CBN per serving, which translates to 132mg of CBN total; other cannabinoids were detected at trace quantities.
With most brands, only 300mg of CBD in a tincture would be far too low for us.
However, in the case of American Shaman’s water-soluble nanotechnology, the concentration seems to be adequate.
American Shaman’s website says the water-soluble CBD oil is up to 10 times more bioavailable, meaning that a 300mg tincture could be equivalent to a 3,000mg tincture of regular CBD oil.

Here are the prices for each of the three types of tinctures we reviewed:

As with the concentration, tinctures with these kinds of prices per mg would make us run for the hills, but with the possibility of up to 10 times more bioavailability, these prices look like the best on the market.

Our biggest objection to the ingredients is the artificial flavoring in most of the tinctures.
Since CBD is intended to improve health and wellness, artificial flavoring runs counter to that goal.
However, because American Shaman has products in hundreds of stores across the country, the brand has prioritized long shelf life to keep consumers safe.
Also, some of the tinctures are formulated with natural flavors, such as the lemon-flavored tinctures.
Flavor
The flavor of the tinctures is strong and potent, and with so many flavors, there’s bound to be something that anybody would enjoy.
None of the flavors entirely mask the taste of hemp and the bitterness associated with it; in fact, the bitterness was enhanced, particularly in the Water Soluble Tinctures (we recommend putting them in water, as the name suggests).
Among the VG Cloud Tinctures, our favorite flavor is Strawberry Banana, while the Piña Colada was our favorite of the Water Soluble Tinctures.
We were also met by potent scents as soon as we opened any tincture.
A unique experience for some of us, as soon as the oil touched our tongue, we felt a rush of heat and a tingling sensation throughout our entire palate.
There’s no doubt, American Shaman tinctures are by far different from most other tinctures we’ve tried.
Effectiveness
We had a wide range of reported benefits among our team, but the primary benefits we all agreed on was that it helped our focus and irritability.
With just one dropper of CBD oil, we felt calmer, more focused on our tasks, and not as annoyed when distractions and interruptions occurred.
Some of the other benefits our team noticed were moderate help with discomfort, sleep, and mood.
CBNight was somewhat helpful for sleeping, but our team did not find it significantly more useful than the other tinctures.

The concentrations here are above average compared to the majority of CBD gummies seen in the market, which we were happy to see.

We like the pouches, which feature a modern look and feel while the 10mg CBD gummies feel on the cheap side.
The 10mg CBD Gummies have a seal covering the bottle under the lid, but we noticed the seal on our bottle was slightly open already when we removed the lid.
American Shaman assured us of their sealing process, and we believe the lid caught the seal when we opened it, lifting the seal in the process.

As is the unfortunate case with some gummy products, many of these ingredients are artificial and unhealthy.
We find it difficult to recommend these gummies because of their ingredients, including the sugar-free gummies; however, for those who prioritize great taste and CBD content over the healthiness of other ingredients, American Shaman has what you’re looking for.
Flavor
The flavor of all these gummies is some of the best our team has tried.
Not only do they taste great, but they also have several flavor options, such as Lemon, Orange, Blackberry, Watermelon, Tropical, and Blue Raspberry.
There is only a faint scent associated with each flavor.
Effectiveness
Out of all the gummies we tried, the most effective were the CBD Energy Gummies.
The synergistic effect between CBD, Green Tea, and vitamins like Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 helped us get past a mid-afternoon slump.
Taking two gummies at the same time seemed to be more effective than taking one.
Unfortunately, we did notice many benefits with the other CBD gummies; however, this does not mean other people won’t experience benefits.

According to the third-party results, our capsules had 16mg of CBD per capsule for a total of 480mg.
These American Shaman capsules are average in concentration, but this is at least a substantial amount.
Surprisingly, we found 32 total capsules in our bottle.
After talking with American Shaman, we’re not too concerned about quality control.
The CBD oil in these capsules is not enhanced with the brand’s nanotechnology.

For an average concentration of CBD per capsule, this is a little above the price point we’d like to see; however, the upfront cost is comparable to other brands.

We were surprised that there were so few ingredients in the 500 Topical Cream, as most other brands have topicals with an ingredient list like the one found in the Hydrating Body Lotion.
Speaking of which, our team loves the ingredients in this one not only because there are so many excellent ones but also because they’re organic.
Scent & Texture
The 500 Topical Cream has no scent whatsoever, which is not surprising considering the ingredients.
However, the Replenishing Face Cream smells strongly of lavender while the Hydrating Body Lotion had a sweet, nutty smell along with an aloe vera scent.
The texture for all of these products is thin, which allows them to spread easily and absorb quickly into the skin.
None of them left our skin feeling greasy, at least not to any significant degree.
Effectiveness
American Shaman’s 500 Topical Cream was helpful to most of our team.
We used it on the neck to relieve stiffness, which provided moderate relief and allowed for better range of motion.
The Replenishing Face Cream seemed to keep our skin moisturized and feeling clean.
Our favorite product in terms of effectiveness was the Hydrating Body Lotion.
Almost immediately upon applying the lotion, our skin felt more hydrated and soft.
This effect lasted more than a moment as well, keeping our skin this way for hours.
With continual use, the lotion helped us maintain healthy and moisturized skin.
